Brand Photoshoot Tips + Inspo

Brand Photoshoot Tips + Inspo

FYI, the images we’ve shared were taken by professional photographers. That’s indeed ideal for brand photoshoots, but, if professional photography is outside of your budget, consider snapping your brand photos with a new iPhone! Often a more casual, honest look at you or your products resonates best with audiences anyway.

Types of images you need are listed below.

Headshots of you (founder)—

Think more ‘lifestyle shot’ than ‘LinkedIn profile photo’. It helps to have props and an interesting setting. Also, sitting however you feel most comfortable is usually better than standing, and way better than a stiff pose. The most important thing is to show off your personality! Wear seasonally neutral clothing (so your photos look up-to-date year-round) of mostly solid, neutral colors (so viewers don’t lose you among the background). If you want some color, you can add pops of your brand palette.

Product images (if you’re a commerce business)—

Think styled imagery with props (preferably) in use. Images look best with people in them—customers naturally will envision themselves using your products when they see others doing so. Consider lighting—natural is ideal. And keep in mind that products should be positioned within the middle square of each image. That way, if it gets cropped into portrait, landscape, or square orientations, your product will still be most prominently displayed.

Service images (if you’re a service business)—

Invite some friends that possess similar characteristics to your target market, and have them pose as clients/recipients of your services. Then, simply pretend to perform your service in the space you would do so normally. If your work is more computer-bound, perhaps rent a pretty office space and bring lots of office-y props, like a laptop, a notebook, a coffee mug, your phone, etc. Have fun with it! Wear seasonally neutral clothing (so your photos look up-to-date year-round) of mostly solid, neutral colors (so viewers don’t lose you among the background). If you want some color, you can add pops of your brand palette.
