Dreaming for 2023

2023 Business Goals Planning Template

Today, we’re drawing back the curtain to show you how I dream and then subsequently make goals for each coming year! I’ll show you the process I engage for answering five important questions — who, what, when, where, and why (in the context of running Sela Vie) — so that I can then get really specific with my intentions.

Let me quickly say upfront—I’m 10000% not a manifesting guru; I’m hardly into that concept at all. However, I completed this exercise in January 2020 at a conference in Atlanta, and then honestly forgot completely about it until I recently had my three-month-old daughter, Eden, and slowly re-engaged with work.

I was reminded of the business I’d visualized through this exercise, because I realized with excitement that much of it had already come to life! What I’d dismissed as “woo-woo” or just a stretch was on its way to coming true for me, which has energized me to pursue this line of thinking again.

So let’s just give it a shot. Regardless of whether you “manifest your dreams” or get to see all the fruit from this exercise, it can at least offer you clarity about what you WANT, and then a direction to actively pursue, which is of measureless value.

Okay. Close your eyes, turn on some soft music without words, and take three slow, deep box breaths — 4 count inhale, 4 count hold, 4 count exhale.

Now imagine your dream work day.

  • When are you working? What’s your schedule like? How often are you working? What days of the week? What hours?

  • Where are you working? What does your environment feel like? What does it look like? Is it at home or at an office?

  • With whom are you working? What are those relationships like? What’s your level of engagement with your customers/clients? Do you have coworkers or a team? What are they like?

  • What are you working on? What type of projects do you have? What services or products are you selling? Which are the best sellers?

  • What’s your ‘why’? What brings you the most joy? The most fulfillment? How do you feel after completing a project or selling a product/service?

Write down anything that comes to mind. It’s ok if you’re unable to answer a few of the questions. That’s fine—the point isn’t perfect completion; the point is clarity regarding your pursuits for next year (and beyond). To pinpoint your destination.

Once you’ve got your destination, we can then map the road to take you there. With your answers to the questions above, list three specific and attainable steps you can take reasonably soon in pursuit of each of those goals.

For example, consider the “what” category for Sela Vie. In my dream scenario, we have three website intensives on the calendar for each month with small branding projects sprinkled in throughout, since we’re best known for our web design. We figure out a “plug and chug” process for website design, so we’re efficient and effective and the final products are beautiful. We have a signature package for our clients that combines brand, web, and copy at a reasonable and attractive price point.

With that goal, I can take the following steps:

  • Explore paid digital ads/marketing in order to attain more leads and consistently schedule three website projects per month

  • Create a few reliable website templates featuring our signature style, so we can have a starting point and get even faster at designing beautiful and functional websites

  • Test out different project packages and price points to find the sweet spot for our clients’ budgets and needs

Now I have three specific and attainable goals for 2023 that will get Sela Vie headed in that ideal direction! See? Not that hard.

Reply and let me know what you’re dreaming about for your next year in business! I’d be happy to help you flesh out some ideas.

Good Luck!
